Privacy policy

Last changed 25 October 2026

Hordewatch is a free browser game made by Netonic. This page says what we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it. In short: you can play without an account, we keep only what the game needs, there are no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies, and we never sell anything about you.

Who we are

Netonic is responsible for your data (the "controller" under the GDPR).

  • Contact: the contact address below

Playing without an account

You can play solo without signing in. Your progress, settings and key bindings are then stored in your own browser (its local storage), not on our server. Clearing your browser's data removes them.

What we keep when you sign in

To play online, add friends and keep your progress on every device, you sign in with your Google account. Then we keep:

  • From Google: your Google account id, email address, name and the address of your profile picture. We use them to recognise you when you sign in. Your name and email are never shown to other players.
  • Your username, which you pick yourself.
  • Your progress: your save (levels, unlocks, loadouts, stats and settings). To be able to undo a broken save, we also keep the last 20 versions and one version per day for 30 days.
  • Your matches: the map, difficulty, round reached, kills, whether it was co-op, and when it started and ended. Your best round per map and difficulty goes on the leaderboard.
  • Friends: the friend requests you send and get, your friends, and the players you block.
  • Sign-in tokens: a token in your browser keeps you signed in. It stops working after 30 days without use, when you sign out, or when you choose "Sign out everywhere".

What other players see

Signed-in players can see your username, level, prestige, calling card, lifetime stats and best rounds: in co-op lobbies, on the leaderboards and in friend lists. While you play together, your teammates see your character, outfit and what you do in the game. Your online status is only shown to your friends.

Error reports and server logs

When something goes wrong in the game, your browser sends us an error report: the error message, where in the code it happened, the page address, your browser's name and version, and your account id if you're signed in. Like every website, our server also logs requests, including your IP address. We use both only to fix bugs and keep the game safe from abuse, and delete them after at most 14 days.

Why we may use it

  • Your account, saves, matches, friends and online play: to give you the game you sign up for (GDPR article 6(1)(b), performance of a contract).
  • Error reports, server logs and protecting accounts and leaderboards from cheating and abuse: our legitimate interest in a game that works and is fair (article 6(1)(f)).

Who else is involved

  • Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) hosts our server and database, in the EU.
  • Google handles signing in with your Google account, under Google's privacy policy. Google is based in the United States; that transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which Google takes part in. Google's sign-in only loads when you click Sign in with Google: the game's fonts and everything else come from our own server.

We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and there are no ads or analytics.

Cookies and local storage

The game sets no tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage for your settings, your progress when you play without an account, and your sign-in token. These are needed for the game to work, so no consent is asked for them. Google may set its own cookies when you sign in with Google.

How long we keep it

Your account data stays as long as you have an account. Delete your account in the game (your player page, then the account menu, then Delete account) and your account, saves, matches, leaderboard entries and friends are deleted straight away. Error reports and server logs are deleted after at most 14 days.

Your rights

You may ask to see the data we have about you, to correct it, to delete it, to get a copy of it, or object to how we use it. Email the contact address below and we'll answer within a month. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Children

You need to be 16 or older to make an account, or have permission from a parent or guardian. Anyone can play without an account.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top.
